## Quick Brief

Bitcoin begins September around $77,900 after gaining roughly 23% in August, when the cryptocurrency climbed from the low-$60,000s into the upper-$70,000s.

Prediction markets expect some additional upside. Traders give Bitcoin an 85% chance of reaching $80,000 at some point during September and a 60% chance of touching $82,500.

The outlook becomes considerably less certain from there. Bitcoin is priced at 35% to reach $85,000, 27% to hit $87,500, and just 17% to reach $90,000.

These contracts measure whether Bitcoin touches each price during September, not where it finishes the month.

## A Wide Range Around Bitcoin

The upside market tells only half the story.

A separate prediction market tracking how low Bitcoin could fall gives BTC a 69% chance of trading below $75,000 during September and a 51% chance of falling below $72,500\. The probability drops to 32% below $70,000 and 14% below $65,000.

Put the two markets together, and traders are pricing plenty of movement in both directions.

Bitcoin has a 60% chance of reaching $82,500 and a 51% chance of falling below $72,500, according to current prices. Both levels sit several thousand dollars away from where BTC entered the month.

The more extreme outcomes are considerably less likely. Traders give Bitcoin only a 5% chance of reaching $97,500 and a 5% chance of falling below $60,000.

## Reading the Market

The clearest dividing line currently sits around $85,000.

Prices suggest Bitcoin is more likely than not to reach $82,500 during September, but the probability slips below 50% at $85,000 and falls rapidly from there.

That matters after Bitcoin's August surge. BTC gained approximately 23% during the month, supported in part by a run of inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs.

The September market isn't ruling out another leg higher. It simply isn't pricing one as the base case.

At the same time, the downside contracts show that traders aren't expecting Bitcoin to move higher in a straight line. A dip below $75,000 is priced as considerably more likely than not, while a move below $70,000 remains a meaningful possibility.

Taken together, the markets currently point toward a volatile September centered around the $70,000s and low-$80,000s rather than an immediate move toward either extreme.

## What to Watch

- **The $80,000 threshold:** With an 85% probability, this is the level traders appear most confident Bitcoin will clear during September.
- **The $85,000 dividing line:** The probability drops from 60% at $82,500 to 35% at $85,000, making this a key benchmark on the current market curve.
- **Another pullback:** Bitcoin has a 69% chance of falling below $75,000 and a 32% chance of dropping below $70,000 at some point during the month.
- **U.S. economic data:** The August jobs report arrives Sept. 4, with inflation data following before the Federal Reserve's Sept. 15-16 meeting. Those releases could reshape expectations for interest rates and broader risk assets.
- **The Fed:** Markets are closely divided over whether policymakers will raise rates in September, making the upcoming decision another potential catalyst for Bitcoin and other financial markets.
