Miami has overwhelmed its first two opponents. Prediction markets expect that run to continue Friday night in Winston-Salem.

The Hurricanes carry a 92% chance of beating unbeaten Wake Forest, but a three-touchdown spread sets a much tougher standard. A win is expected, but another rout isn’t as certain.

## Quick Brief

No. 5 Miami enters Friday as a strong favorite after opening the season with a 45-6 win at Stanford and a 77-7 rout of Florida A&M. The Hurricanes have outscored their opponents 122-13, and their defense has yet to allow an offensive touchdown.

Miami stands at a commanding 92% probability of beating Wake Forest, with the hosts listed at 8% on Kalshi.

The rest of the board provides more intrigue. Miami covering a 20.5-point spread is priced at 51%, while the probability of the teams combining for more than 55.5 points also sits at 51%.

Traders strongly expect Miami to win, but there’s less certainty on whether the Hurricanes turn Friday night into another runaway.

Miami is priced at 76% to score the game's first touchdown and 59% to reach at least five touchdowns. Its 38.5-point team-total threshold is below its output in the first two games: 45 points against Stanford, and 77 points in the rout of Florida A&M.

Wake Forest, meanwhile, carries a 64% probability of scoring at least twice. That would itself represent something new for Miami's defense after keeping both Stanford and Florida A&M out of the end zone offensively.

## Mensah takes the Heisman lead into primetime

Darian Mensah's first two games at Miami have quickly pushed him into a much larger conversation.

The Duke transfer completed 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns against Stanford, then went 14 of 15 for 252 yards and three scores against Florida A&M. Through two starts, Mensah is 41 of 45 for 653 yards and eight touchdowns.

That start has helped put him atop the current [Heisman Trophy prediction market](https://www.predictmatters.com/who-will-win-the-heisman-trophy-prediction-market-forecast-for-2026/). Mensah is priced at 18%, ahead of Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith and Miami teammate Malachi Toney at 12% apiece on Friday morning's board.

A road trip to Wake Forest provides a different test than the visit from FAMU. Friday brings another ACC road game, a national ESPN window, and an unbeaten opponent that has already demonstrated an ability to survive a close game.

## Wake Forest brings a different test

The Demon Deacons are also 2-0, but their path has looked considerably different.

Wake opened with a 38-16 victory over Akron before going on the road and beating Purdue 38-36 in double overtime. Quarterback Gio Lopez threw for 225 yards against Purdue and added 59 rushing yards as Wake produced 411 yards of offense.

Lopez has been listed as probable on the ACC availability report and is expected to play. Through two games, he has thrown for 575 yards and four touchdowns while adding 98 rushing yards and two scores.

Miami has identified his mobility as one of the challenges Friday. Wake also brings receiver Carlos Hernandez and running back Ty Clark III to the table. Hernandez has more than 700 receiving yards over his last five games dating to 2025, and Clark is averaging 7.4 yards per carry this season.

There is one potential pressure point for Miami: its secondary remains short-handed.

Cornerbacks O.J. Frederique, Xavier Lucas, and Ja'Boree Antoine are all unavailable, forcing the Hurricanes to lean further into their defensive depth.

## Miami's bigger market picture

Friday also matters beyond one heavily tilted game market.

Miami sits at 12% to win the national championship, tied with Ohio State and Georgia on the current board and trailing only Texas at 15% and Notre Dame at 13%.

Miami began the year ranked No. 7 and has already climbed to No. 5\. The Hurricanes reached last season's national championship game. Their dominant opening stretch has kept them near the top of the early [college football national championship prediction market](https://www.predictmatters.com/college-football-national-championship-prediction-market/).

Friday isn't priced as a toss-up. It's the kind of road game where the market will be watching whether a contender simply survives or continues looking like one of the country's most complete teams.

## What to Watch

- **Mensah under the Friday-night spotlight:** The current Heisman market leader has eight touchdown passes against just four incompletions through two games.
- **Miami's defensive streak:** Neither Stanford nor FAMU scored an offensive touchdown. Wake is priced at 64% to reach the end zone at least twice.
- **Wake's mobile quarterback:** Lopez's ability to extend plays gives Miami a different problem after two dominant defensive performances.
- **Miami's depleted secondary:** The Hurricanes remain without three cornerbacks, making Wake's passing game worth watching despite the lopsided winner price.
- **The three-touchdown benchmark:** Miami is overwhelmingly favored to win, but the 20.5-point spread sits at 51%. How comfortably the Hurricanes handle their first unbeaten opponent could matter to the broader perception around both Mensah and Miami.
