## Quick Brief

Missouri enters Friday night with the upper hand, but prediction markets leave plenty of room for the Border Showdown to live up to its name.

The Tigers are favored at 66%, yet traders are far less certain about what a Missouri win would look like. The market is evenly divided over whether the Tigers can win by more than 5.5 points, while the scoring contracts leave plenty of room for an active scoreboard.

Both teams opened the season with comfortable wins. Missouri beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 54–14, while Kansas rolled past Long Island 51–6.

## Missouri brings the edge and a new quarterback

Missouri’s opening win offered an encouraging first look at Austin Simmons.

The Ole Miss transfer completed 17 of 19 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns, all before halftime, as the Tigers built a 40–0 lead. Missouri finished with 562 total yards and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 198.

Friday should provide a much better test.

Kansas produced 613 yards of offense in its opener, including 277 on the ground. Quarterback Isaiah Marshall threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns while adding 49 rushing yards, and receiver Nik McMillan finished with 130 yards and a score in his Kansas debut.

The market still gives Missouri the advantage, but the 50/50 margin contract suggests traders are not pricing a runaway.

## The Border Showdown returns to Lawrence

The rivalry adds another layer.

This is the 122nd meeting between Missouri and Kansas and Missouri’s first trip to Lawrence since 2005\. The Tigers lead the all-time series 57–55–9, while Kansas has won seven of the past eight meetings played in Lawrence.

Last year’s matchup was memorable. Kansas raced to a 21–6 lead before Missouri came back to win 42–31 in Columbia. The Tigers finished with 595 yards of offense and dominated possession, but Kansas led again in the fourth quarter before Missouri scored the final 14 points.

That history fits Friday’s board reasonably well: Missouri is favored, but the market leaves room for another game that stays competitive well into the latter stages.

## What to Watch

- **The 5.5-point threshold.** Missouri is favored to win, but traders are exactly split on whether the Tigers win by more than 5.5 points.
- **Austin Simmons’ second start.** His Missouri debut was nearly flawless. Kansas should offer a much clearer read on how quickly the new offense is settling in.
- **Kansas’ offense.** Marshall, McMillan, and a 277-yard rushing performance powered the opener. The market gives Kansas nearly a coin-flip chance to score more than 23.5 points.
- **Rivalry volatility.** Last year’s game swung sharply before Missouri pulled away late. Friday brings the series back to Lawrence for the first time in more than two decades.
