Prediction markets now put the highest probability on a year-end finish above 33,000, a level that would require another substantial move during the final three months of 2026.

## Quick Brief

The Nasdaq-100 enters the fourth quarter near record territory after technology and AI-related stocks helped drive another strong advance.

The prediction market sees considerable upside remaining. A finish above 33,000 carries a 25% probability, easily the largest individual outcome on the board.

Getting there would require another gain of roughly 8.2% from Thursday's close. But the market is hardly unanimous: no individual $500 range between 29,000 and 33,000 carries more than a 9% probability.

The result is a wide-open fourth-quarter market with a distinctly bullish outcome sitting at the top of the board.

## What would it take to reach 33,000?

The Nasdaq-100 doesn't need to reverse course to reach the market's leading outcome. It needs the rally to accelerate.

From Thursday's 30,501.56 close, a move above 33,000 would require a gain of about 8.2%.

That would extend an already powerful run for an index dominated by many of the companies at the center of the artificial intelligence investment boom.

AI demand remained a major source of support late in September. Micron delivered record quarterly results and an outlook above Wall Street expectations, driven by surging demand for memory used in AI data centers.

The hurdle now is expectations. After a major run in tech, continued gains increasingly depend on companies delivering enough earnings growth to justify elevated valuations.

## AI spending remains the engine

The scale of investment behind the AI boom continues to grow.

That spending extends well beyond chips. Hyperscalers are pouring capital into data centers, cloud infrastructure, networking, power, and other equipment required to build and operate increasingly large AI systems.

The investment boom has helped support economic growth and corporate earnings, but it is also creating a new question for markets: how much of that spending will ultimately translate into durable profits?

Recent market reactions have shown that rapid growth alone does not guarantee companies higher valuations when financing costs are rising, and questions remain about the sustainability of hyperscaler spending.

For the Nasdaq-100, that makes the coming earnings cycle particularly important. Another round of strong results could reinforce the case for a move toward the upper end of the prediction-market board.

## Rates create the counterweight

The biggest challenge may be coming from outside the stock market.

The 10-year Treasury yield surged to 5.34% Thursday, its highest level since 2002, as a global bond selloff pushed borrowing costs sharply higher.

That matters for a growth-heavy index like the Nasdaq-100\. Higher rates increase financing costs and can make future corporate earnings less valuable in today's dollars, putting pressure on the valuations investors are willing to pay for fast-growing companies.

The pressure has intensified alongside the AI investment boom itself. Major technology companies are issuing enormous amounts of debt to finance data centers and other infrastructure, adding another source of demand for capital.

So far, technology stocks have proved resilient. Whether that continues with Treasury yields above 5% will be an important question for the Nasdaq-100 during the final quarter.

## What to Watch

- **The 33,000 threshold:** Reaching the market's leading outcome would require another gain of roughly 8.2% from Thursday's close.
- **The middle of the board:** Several ranges between 30,000 and 32,500 remain tightly grouped, showing how little conviction exists around a more modest year-end finish.
- **Big Tech earnings:** Strong results will be increasingly important if the Nasdaq-100 is going to extend its run.
- **AI returns:** Investors will be watching for evidence that enormous infrastructure spending is translating into sustainable profits and cash flow.
- **Treasury yields:** The 10-year reaching its highest level since 2002 creates a significant fourth-quarter test for growth stocks.
