Two unbeaten teams meet Saturday night in Provo, Utah, for a top-10 showdown with major College Football Playoff implications.

No. 2 Notre Dame (6-0) visits No. 8 BYU (5-0) at LaVell Edwards Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. ESPN's College GameDay is also in town for the first matchup between top-10 teams ever held at the venue.

Despite both teams' perfect records, Kalshi traders have established Notre Dame as a substantial favorite. The question is whether the Fighting Irish can justify that confidence against a BYU team that has yet to lose.

Notre Dame's statistical advantage is substantial. The Fighting Irish average 44 points per game while allowing just 11, and their defense has been particularly effective against the run. They've won all six games by double digits, most recently routing Stanford 58-7.

Quarterback CJ Carr has thrown for 1,378 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just one interception, while freshman running back Jonaz Walton has added 409 rushing yards. Notre Dame's passing production, turnover advantage, and defensive efficiency help explain why traders have priced the Irish so aggressively.

BYU, however, has built its own unbeaten record behind a productive rushing attack and an equally stingy defense. The Cougars average 223.8 rushing yards per game and have allowed just 13.4 points per contest. Their latest victory, a 24-10 win over Iowa State, featured a 506-200 advantage in total yards.

Freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier has thrown for 1,033 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception, while adding 239 rushing yards and four scores. His mobility could be especially important with leading rusher LJ Martin expected to miss Saturday's game because of a lower-leg injury.

Both teams enter Saturday unbeaten, although neither has faced a currently ranked opponent this season. Notre Dame's strength of schedule has drawn particular scrutiny, while BYU has yet to encounter a team the caliber of the Fighting Irish. The showdown offers both programs an opportunity to validate their impressive starts against elite competition.

Kalshi's supporting markets provide a more nuanced picture than the outright win probabilities, particularly when it comes to the expected margin and scoring. The spread contract offers the clearest distinction. Notre Dame carries a 78% chance of winning outright, but the market is almost evenly divided on whether the Irish will win by more than 10.5 points.

The scoring contracts reinforce that distinction. Notre Dame averages 44 points per game, yet traders are pricing its chances of exceeding 27.5 points at just 56%. BYU's strong defense and the difficulty of winning comfortably on the road provide important context.

Meanwhile, the 47.5-point game total is effectively a coin flip, suggesting traders see considerably more uncertainty around the scoring environment than the outright winner.

## What Matters for Notre Dame vs. BYU

Notre Dame's statistical advantages provide clear context for its favored status, but BYU presents a different challenge from what the Fighting Irish have encountered through six games. Four factors could shape Saturday's outcome:

- **Notre Dame's run defense vs. BYU's rushing attack:** The Irish allow just 58.3 rushing yards per game, while BYU averages 223.8\. With leading rusher LJ Martin expected to miss the game, the Cougars face a difficult task establishing their ground game. If Notre Dame can contain the run without committing extra defenders, it can devote more resources to pressuring Bachmeier and defending the pass.
- **CJ Carr against BYU's defense:** Carr has thrown 16 touchdowns against just one interception, but BYU allows only 13.4 points per game. The Cougars will look to disrupt his rhythm and force longer drives rather than surrendering explosive plays, making Notre Dame's efficiency on third down a key metric to watch.
- **Bear Bachmeier's mobility:** BYU's freshman quarterback has rushed for 239 yards and four touchdowns. Designed runs and scrambles could help offset Martin's absence, particularly if Notre Dame's defensive pressure creates opportunities for Bachmeier to escape the pocket. The challenge is generating those yards without exposing him to unnecessary hits or negative plays.
- **Turnovers and field position:** Notre Dame enters with a +13 turnover margin, compared with BYU's +4\. The Fighting Irish’s ability to generate takeaways has given it a substantial possession advantage this season. A turnover that gives Notre Dame a short field could quickly change the complexion of a lower-scoring game.

Kalshi traders strongly favor Notre Dame to remain unbeaten, but they're considerably less certain about the margin of victory. BYU doesn't necessarily need to match the Irish's offensive production to challenge that expectation. A strong defensive performance, sustained possessions, and a few timely plays could turn a game priced as a comfortable Notre Dame victory into a much tighter contest.
