Will Bitcoin Hit $100K Again in 2026? Prediction Market Traders Aren't Convinced
Bitcoin has staged a sharp comeback, but prediction markets remain skeptical that the world's largest cryptocurrency will reclaim six figures before the end of 2026.
Traders give Bitcoin a 28% probability of touching $100,000 before January, even after a powerful August rally brought the milestone back within striking distance.
Market Snapshot
- Bitcoin hits $100K before October: 5%
- Before November: 13%
- Before December: 24%
- Before January 2027: 28%

Quick Brief
Bitcoin has already traveled a long way in both directions.
After reaching an all-time high above $126,000 in October 2025, Bitcoin entered a prolonged decline that eventually pushed it as low as $57,776 in 2026. It has since rebounded dramatically, including a nearly 25% gain in August.
Bitcoin is trading a little south of $80,000 today, meaning it would need to gain roughly 25% to reach the $100,000 threshold at the center of this market.
The recovery has put $100,000 back on the radar, but not yet within the market's base case.
Prediction markets give Bitcoin just a 5% probability of reaching $100,000 before October. That rises to 13% before November, 24% before December, and 28% before January 2027.
The contract asks whether Bitcoin touches $100,000 at any point before each deadline, not whether it finishes the month or year above that level. Traders are effectively pricing a 72% probability that Bitcoin doesn't reach $100,000 at all before 2026 ends.
Bitcoin Has Already Made a Big Move
The skepticism comes despite a substantial rebound.
Bitcoin surged nearly 25% in August, its strongest month since November 2024. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $3.5 billion in net inflows during the month, according to Farside Investors data.
The rally carried Bitcoin through several closely watched technical levels. Reuters noted last week that Bitcoin had broken above its 21-, 55-, 100-, and 200-day moving averages following a roughly 30% surge from its earlier lows.
But the path back to $100,000 remains substantial.
Bitcoin came within striking distance of $100,000 earlier this year, trading in the neighborhood of $98,000. With Bitcoin now back below $80,000, that milestone has moved considerably further away.
The prediction market reflects that distance. Traders see only a 13% chance of $100,000 arriving by the end of October, while most of the market's probability is concentrated later in the year.
The Fed Is Back in the Bitcoin Story
One of the biggest variables isn't specific to crypto.
Friday's stronger-than-expected August employment report revived expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates at its September meeting. Bitcoin initially fell below $80,000 after the jobs report before recovering above $81,000 as markets continued to reassess the Fed outlook.
Higher interest rates and a stronger dollar can create a tougher environment for risk assets, including Bitcoin. That makes the next stretch of U.S. economic data, and the Fed's Sept. 16 decision, relevant well beyond traditional financial markets.
A softer inflation picture could ease tightening expectations, while another inflation surprise could reinforce them.
For Bitcoin traders trying to get back to $100,000, the macro calendar suddenly matters quite a bit.
What to Watch
- The $90,000 threshold: Bitcoin still has significant ground to cover before $100,000 becomes the immediate question. A sustained move through $90,000 would considerably shrink that distance.
- ETF demand: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs absorbed approximately $3.5 billion in net inflows during August. Whether that institutional demand persists could help determine whether the rebound has another leg.
- September's Fed decision: Expectations for tighter monetary policy have shifted rapidly, creating another potential catalyst for Bitcoin and other risk assets.
- Prediction market curve: Traders assign only 5% to $100K before October, but 24% before December. If Bitcoin keeps climbing, those intermediate probabilities could move well before the year-end contract does.
Bitcoin has already demonstrated that $100,000 isn't some theoretical milestone. It traded well above that level less than a year ago.
The question now is whether 2026 has another six-figure run left in it. Prediction markets aren't ruling it out. But at 28%, traders clearly aren't counting on it either.
