Quick Brief

Bitcoin's October market has turned noticeably more bullish after a strong start to the month.

The biggest shift is at the heart of the ladder: $90,000 has moved into better-than-even territory, while $92,500 remains the first major hurdle traders aren't yet willing to favor.

That creates a narrow battleground for the next leg higher. Bitcoin doesn't need an extraordinary move to challenge it, but clearing that zone would materially change the shape of the October market and bring the higher thresholds into play.

Bitcoin is testing the top of its recent range

The market's confidence at the lower thresholds comes as Bitcoin makes another attempt to break through an area that has repeatedly slowed its advance.

Bitcoin approached $87,000 early Monday before retreating, leaving it roughly $1,300 below its recent eight-month high near $87,400. It was the second rally in a week to stall near that area.

The broader trend has nevertheless improved considerably. Bitcoin finished September around $83,600 after gaining more than 40% during the third quarter, its strongest quarterly performance since late 2024.

That leaves the first question for the October market relatively close at hand: whether Bitcoin can break through the recent ceiling and turn $87,500 from a high-probability contract into a resolved one.

Macro conditions have become more supportive

Bitcoin's latest push has coincided with changing expectations for U.S. interest rates.

Softer employment data helped reduce expectations for additional Federal Reserve tightening, supporting Bitcoin and other risk assets. Bitcoin climbed above $86,000 following the jobs report before pushing toward $87,000 over the weekend.

Institutional expectations have also shifted. Citi raised its 12-month Bitcoin forecast last week from $82,000 to $113,000, citing stronger crypto activity, improved macroeconomic conditions, and renewed ETF inflows. The longer horizon makes that forecast different from the October market, but it adds context to the renewed optimism surrounding Bitcoin.

For the prediction market, the more immediate question is whether that momentum is strong enough to carry Bitcoin through several increasingly difficult thresholds over the next four weeks.

What to Watch

  • The $87,500 threshold: Bitcoin is already within roughly 1.5% of the first unresolved level, and the market prices a touch at 84%.
  • $90,000 vs. $92,500: Those two contracts sit on opposite sides of 50%, making this the clearest dividing line on the October ladder.
  • Another test of recent highs: Bitcoin has twice struggled around the upper-$86,000s, making a sustained break above that range important for the higher contracts.
  • Rates and ETF demand: Expectations for Fed policy and renewed institutional flows remain two potential catalysts for further repricing this month.
