He entered the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a two-shot lead before pulling away to win by eight strokes. The victory was his 21st on the PGA Tour and pushed him into a commanding position atop the FedExCup standings.

Scheffler also arrives as the defending BMW Championship winner after taking down the event in 2025. His combination of current form, world No. 1 status, and recent success in the event helps explain why traders have separated him so sharply from the rest of the field.

McIlroy presents a different picture. The world No. 2 finished near the bottom of the field in Memphis after returning from nearly a month away from competition. He acknowledged afterward that his game was well short of where he wanted it to be, particularly from tee to green, before turning his attention toward Bellerive.

Despite that performance, McIlroy remains the market's second choice, narrowly ahead of Schauffele. The steep drop from Scheffler to everyone else suggests traders see a clear favorite but considerable uncertainty over which challenger is best positioned to emerge.

The opening round should provide the first indication of whether Scheffler can carry his Memphis form into another playoff event.

McIlroy's performance will also be worth watching after his struggles last week. A sharper start at Bellerive could quickly change the market's assessment of his chances, while another difficult round could further separate Scheffler from one of his highest-profile challengers.

Beyond the top of the winner market, the FedExCup cutoff creates another layer of pressure throughout the field. Players around 30th place have four rounds to move into qualifying position, while those currently above the line will be trying to protect their spots.

Scheffler enters as the clear man to beat. With 72 holes ahead and the TOUR Championship field on the line, the BMW Championship will deliver plenty of drama across the four-day event.
